The Way of the Authentic Speaker

Cultivating Speakers of Heart and Mind

Begone! Fear of Public Speaking

About Authentic Public Speaking

Authentic Public Speaking is a practice that involves speaking from both our mind and heart.

Authentic speakers learn how to be balanced and concentrate on speaking and nonverbal language, not on what others think about them. Great speakers accept that they make mistakes, but acknowledge the fact that the average listener “catches” about 20% of the message.

Authenticity can be rehearsed and replicated. All you need to do to be an authentic speaker is to be open, passionate, and to connect and listen to your audience.

Public speaking is also about visualization and the capacity of seeing yourself on the podium, delivering a speech and connecting with your audience. A good speaker notices what the mental picture of his speech looks like to the point she/ he “feels” it.

Authentic speakers know that communication is personal, but the main focus is the people in front of him or her. They focus on serving the audience and surprise them with something they want to know.

Storytelling is a big part of effective speaking. Some uses for storytelling in business include:

  • Knowledge management
  • Strategic planning
  • Mission/ vision statement creation
  • Conflict resolution
  • New Employee retention
  • Moral boosting
  • Meetings
  • Sales
  • Training
  • Public relations and marketing
  • Commemorative events

It’s time to step out of the comfort zone! Authentic public speaking is what you need to convince others that your ideas really matter.
